| Materials |
Alphabet Cards |
| Object |
To learn the alphabet and to say the letters at random
Can be done at any stage of learning the letters |
*How to Play*
| (1) |
Put the cards on the table in a line and practice saying the alphabet in order. |
| (2) |
Then turn over a few cards. |
| (3) |
Say the alphabet again, but DO NOT say the cards that are turned over. Instead, clap when you come to these cards, but continue to say the rest of the letters that are facing up. Be sure students point to the cards as they say them. |
| (4) |
Turn over a few more cards (especially the easy ones)and continue. When a lot of cards are turned over, clap on the cards that are facing up and say the cards that are facing down. |
|
*VARIATIONS*
| (1) |
If you have color alphabet cards, clap on a specific color instead of turning over the cards. Add more colors to clap on to make it more challenging. |
| (2) |
Pick up speed as you play the game, pointing to the cards |
| (3) |
Say the alphabet backwards, pointing to the cards |
