先生のご質問ですがcertificate program の中でも説明があったかと思いますが、つまずいたら「すぐにdrillに戻る」これが鉄則です。ゲームの途中であっても同じです。つまり、この時点で先生は「ドリル不足だな（発話練習）」と思ってください。それぞれ子供達は学習能力に個人差があります。すぐに言える子、言えない子様々です。MAT METHODはそういった差をなくすように段階的に進んでいけるように考えられています。ここで先生が問題にされていることですが全体でもう一度「ドリル」をしてください。長くやる必要はありません。（？）秒。彼一人をドリルさせることは避けましょう。ゲームの目的は定着させるもので勝ち負けではありません。早く言えても正確でなければ意味がありません。ですから他のグループがきちんと言えているかグループ毎に発表させることも時には必要です。何はともあれ「ドリル」です。
ところで１クラスの人数が３０名でしょうか？もしそうだとすれば、可能な限りクラス分けをした方が良いと思います。

When to help a student

I attended the summer certificate program and shocked to learn that students are the reflection of the teacher's teaching! My class started recently and I have about 30 students in a class. I divided the class into four groups and did a relay game to practice "What's your name? My name is ~." But one student couldn't say this smoothly and his group lost! Shoud I help him at once?

スキルブックの活用は私の場合、ずいぶん後になって使うようにしています。Unit3ぐらいが終わる頃に使い始めます。英語が初めてのクラスであれば、当然ながらアルファベット大文字・小文字を読んだり、書いたりすることに慣れていませんね。ですから毎回のレッスンの中でReading & Writingの時間を設けて練習させます。これは個人差がありますので家庭でも協力してもらってください。３ヶ月ほどすぎた頃には随分読んだり、書いたり出来るでしょう。（幼児クラスはもう少し時間をかけます）平行してフォニックスを導入します。MAT Phonicsで教えることをお薦めします。子供たちも楽しめます。

さて、本題ですがいきなり「文字を読みなさい」と言っても読めませんね。そこでポイントとなる文をセンテンスバーであらかじめ見せておきます。特に読み方を指導しなくても良いです。毎回見せることにより認識していきます。絵カードの下にある文字と考えてください。子供達は一見絵だけを見てそうですが、しっかり文字も見ています。そこでスキルブックのUnit1.page4のAなどは出来るのではないでしょうか。書くことが難しければとりあえずは線を引いたり、数字を入れたりするところをやってみてはどうでしょう。このワークにはＣＤがついていますから文字を書かない問題を先にしておくこともできます。宿題として活用されるには上記のことが十分出来るようになってからでも遅くはないと思います。私のクラスの子も線からはみ出したりして書いていますが年齢が上がるにつれて上手になってきますので私は一応良しとしています。保護者の方には「文字を書くところは読み書きが十分に出来るようになってからやります」と言われれば大丈夫です。まずはしっかり基礎を作ってくださいね。

スキルブックの活用の仕方を教えて下さい｡

月曜日のクラスはその後、人数も増え、子供たちは驚くほどたくさんのことを覚えて、発話できるようになりました。これこそMATメソッドの力ですね｡
　
ところで、Let's Go １のスキルブックの活用の仕方について教えて下さい｡実は、入会時に、保護者の方に教材を買って貰う時、CD付きであの値段ならお買い得と思ってスキルブックを買ってもらいました。

ところが、、、、、子供たちは英語の学習が全く初めて、かつ、鉛筆の使い方もまだ上手ではなく、アルファベット専用に買った大判のワークブックからさえ、はみ出さないように書くのがやっとです。書き順を丁寧に教えているので、１レッスンで３個くらいのアルファベットしか教えられません。　せっかく買ったスキルブックですが、今の状態ではいつから使えるのか目処もつかず、買ったまま使わないでいることに申し訳ない気持ちでいます。せめてスキルブックのCDだけでも、リスニングの宿題に使えないかと思ったのですが、使いにくくて、結局宿題用には、使い勝手のよいコースブック用のCDを買って頂く事にしました。

皆様の所では、Let's Go 1用のスキルブックはどうしていますか。　お使いになっている先生方は、いつから、どんな風に使われていますか。

IIEEC-OUP 児童英語教師認定講座　

7月6日のIIEEC-OUP 児童英語教師認定講座に参加しました。
私はMAT seminarに参加したこともあるのですが、
今回受講してさらに新しい内容がたくさん盛り込まれていて
新たな発見や学びがたくさんありました。
教えていただいたactivityはさっそくレッスンで
やっています！gameではなく、learning activityを
することが大切なのですね。
次回の秋の講座を楽しみにしています。

今回のSGではExpressionsの教え方とActivityを紹介します。MATでは主にExpression Cardsを使って"Everyday Expressons"を毎レッスン5分ほどとって指導します。

午後からはトレーナーの酒井美紀先生をお招きしてLet's BeginのWorkshopを開催します。このワークショップでは、どのように効果的に楽しく、幼児から低学年生の子どもたちに英語を教えるかを具体的にご紹介します。

Having students repeat multiple times with the DRILL Games in stead of just once was really effective!

I noticed that I needed to use more gestures and efective activities in teaching. I liked the Alphabet games, finger plays and the warm up songs with a lot of actions.

Very good speaker! Really clear and applicable ideas for learning and teaching! I really like the breakdown of elements of each sentence, verbs, plurals, questions etc.
I've noticed students often mush sounds and sentences together and breaing apart of the parts of the setences will help them enunciate and actually say each word.
