MAT Seminar
A REVOLUTIONARY TEACHING METHOD DEVELOPED
FOR CHILDREN LEARNING ENGLISH
A method using the right and left brains at the same time
MODEL The teacher shows how to say the new language
ACTION Add actions while speaking to increase retention
TALK Speaking is student to student, not teacher to student
The FOUR GOALS
The MAT METHOD has given teachers a way to help their students master the four basic components of conversation: being able to ASK, ANSWER, and TELL (giving information/opinions/ responding). All together these lead to TALK, which allows the students to talk to each other. I call these the FOUR GOALS-- goals for each lesson. If the Four Goals are kept in mind while teaching each lesson, the students will always get practice in each skill so that they will be able to speak English and speak it well.
In evaluating the success of this method, It is the intensity of the lesson itself that makes it so easy for both teacher and students. Students are speaking 80% or more in class, to help them retain the lessons they have learned. Preparation for each lesson takes time, but systematic practice steps called the MAT PRACTICE SYSTEM are used in order to have the students get maximum speaking time in class, using unique 6-second drills. Because the students are learning in an EFL environment in Japan, which brings them in contact with English for a total of about ±40 hours a year, we must give them lessons which they can remember for the remaining 363 days.
MAT Seminars and Workshops
We have workshops and a two-day seminar that will show you how you can achieve a lot of success in your classes. Many thousands of teachers throughout Japan have attended, as well as teachers in other countries and have reported dramatic results. I hope to see you at one of our events soon!
