Enjoy Teaching - Message from L. A. by Junko Nakamura
Rain Rain Go Away!
Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day……♪
I never thought this nursery rhyme could be sung for sunny California, but this winter we have had record-breaking rainfall here.
Many people are worried about the recent freaks of nature in the world, such as the recent big earthquakes and Tsunami, and I think the unusual rain storms in California is not an exception.
People in California are really in trouble in the face of the heavy storms.
They knocked out power, and in some areas people suffered from mudslides.
Our area had several power outages and the candles that I bought for the holidays really worked until the electricity was restored.
According to Los Angeles Times, “Rainfall in downtown L. A. as of Saturday (Jan.8) was nearly six times the amount received by the same date last season.
But the good news is that in spite of those rainy days, the famous Pasadena Rose Parade on New Year's Day was held for the 50th consecutive year without rain.
It really looked like a miracle to us.
As you may know, every year on New Year's Day, flower-decked floats and bands have a big parade on the Pasadena's streets.
This is the 116th year for this event.
Before the parade started, everybody was worried about the weather. But as the parade began, amazingly, blue skies appeared and lasted until the parade ended! It was just like blessing from above.
And the next day? It rained again…
Heaven’s cooperation never lasted so long.
We are missing the sun in California … Alas!
